We are pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Agnes Lee as Associate Executive Director of the Vancouver Coastal Health Research Institute (VCHRI), effective May 1, 2021.

Dr. Agnes Lee is a professor in the UBC Department of Medicine, Division of Hematology and the medical director of the Thrombosis Program at Vancouver General Hospital (VGH).

She holds a Doctorate of Medicine and completed her residency in internal medicine at UBC. Dr. Lee also studied hematology and thrombosis and received a Master of Science in Health Research Methodology from McMaster University. Dr. Lee’s primary clinical research interest is cancer-associated thrombosis and venous thromboembolism among high-risk populations. Her ground-breaking 2003 CLOT trial established the gold standard treatment for patients with cancer and acute venous thromboembolism. She has been on the steering committee of multiple international studies, a member of international clinical practice guideline panels and serves on data safety monitoring boards of multinational clinical trials. Among her many accomplishments, Dr. Lee was the Director of the Hematology Research Program and is spearheading the development of the Phase I Clinical Trial Unit for the Leukemia/BMT Training Program at VGH. In her executive leadership role with VCHRI, Dr. Lee will oversee activities related to clinical research and clinical trial administration within the VCH research community. She will explore mechanisms to improve and expand clinical trial activities across the VCHRI research spectrum. As well, Dr. Lee will provide clinical leadership to the VCHRI Research Centre/Program directors to enhance collaboration and align research processes with VCHRI’s vision, mission and values. Her work will be instrumental towards increasing the integration of research into clinical care and enhancing synergies between scientists, clinicians, trainees and other health professionals across the VCH/UBC research community.
