Dr. Denise Jaworsky and Dr. Euiseok Kim appointed Division Head and Associate Division Head, Community Internal Medicine

The UBC Department of Medicine is pleased to announce that Dr. Denise Jaworsky has been appointed Head of the UBC Division of Community Internal Medicine along with Dr. Euiseok Kim, appointed as Associate Head of the UBC Division of Community Internal Medicine, for a five-year term effective January 1, 2023.

Dr. Denise Jaworsky is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Division of Community Internal Medicine. She is a community general internist in Cranbrook, BC, who identifies as a settler physician and health researcher residing and working on the territory of the Ktunaxa Nation. As a community internist and researcher, Dr. Jaworsky is familiar with the challenges inherent in the dual role of physician/researcher and the crucial role that community internists must play to ensure that knowledge is produced and disseminated equitably across the province. In this role, Dr. Jaworsky will seek to strengthen relationships between community internists and the university, increase educational opportunities for learners, faculty development and quality improvement initiatives in the community, and better recognize community-based scholarship.

Dr. Euiseok Kim is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Division of Community Internal Medicine. He started as a general internist in a remote rural community in Nova Scotia and, more recently, in the Fraser East region, which is on the shared territory of the Sumas First Nation and Mastqui First Nation. Throughout his career, he has been closely involved in medical education and has a robust administrative leadership background. At Fraser Health, he serves as the Regional Division Head of General Internal Medicine and the local Department Head of Medicine at Abbotsford Regional Hospital.

Drs. Jaworsky and Kim both have a passion for teaching and mentoring and are looking forward to connecting with members of the Division and Department to further expand education, quality improvement, service, and collaboration efforts.

Please join me in congratulating Dr. Jaworsky and Dr. Kim on their appointments and wishing them all the best in their new roles.

At this time, we would also like to express our heartfelt thanks to Dr. Barry Kassen, who is stepping down as Head of the UBC Division of Community Internal Medicine, for his service to the Division and Department in that role.

Sincerely,
