We are pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Tristen Gilchrist as the new Residency Program Director in the Department of Medicine for a five-year term effective March 1, 2025.

Dr. Gilchrist will be responsible for ensuring that residents receive the highest quality training and education at UBC, while meeting or exceeding the standards set by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia. He will bring his outstanding skills in teaching, pedagogy, administration and clinical practice to this important role.
Dr. Gilchrist is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Division of General Internal Medicine based out of Vancouver General Hospital (VGH), where he has served as the Medical Co-Director of the Clinical Teaching Unit.
Dr. Gilchrist completed his undergraduate and postgraduate medical education at UBC. He also completed the Clinical Educator Fellowship at CHES and obtained his Master of Science in Health Professions Education from Maastricht University. He has been an active teacher in the program, served on various education committees, previously held the role of CBME Lead, and is the outgoing Associate Program Director, Curriculum for the UBC Internal Medicine Residency Program.
We would also like to thank Dr. Roberts for his outstanding contributions and dedication to the program. He effectively stewarded its expansion throughout the province and was instrumental to the UBC Core Internal Medicine program’s successful accreditations
