Dr. Montaner’s research played a key role in the developing and implementing Highly Active Antiretroviral Therapy (HAART) as the modern standard of care for HIV disease. He then pioneered Treatment as Prevention® (TasP®) using HAART to simultaneously stop progression to AIDS and death, and HIV transmission. He is currently working on adapting the TasP® strategy to HCV, COPD, substance use disorder and other areas in health for Targeted Disease Elimination.
