To the members of the UBC Department of Medicine community:
Last week’s tragic shootings in Atlanta, Georgia, have highlighted a concerning rise in hostilities and violence directed at Asian communities. We are also aware of heightened anti-Asian acts and words of hate in Vancouver and across this country since the beginning of the pandemic. All of us at the Department of Medicine strongly uphold President Ono’s recent message of solidarity with members of our Asian communities and re-affirm our commitment to combatting all forms of racism, discrimination, and hate, here and in the broader societies in which we live, study, and work.

“Today, and every day, as we move forward, we resolve to affirm and commit ourselves to challenge all forms of racism and discrimination. We must continue to work together to create constellations of care at UBC to build a stronger and more just world.”
— UBC President Santa Ono
