A Message from the Department Head and Associate Heads: Thank you!

A message from Dr. Anita Palepu, Head, Department of Medicine, UBC

Since its emergence in 2019, no one has been untouched by the COVID-19 pandemic. In the UBC Department of Medicine, our faculty, researchers, fellows, residents, trainees, staff, and students have come together in extraordinary ways to meet the challenges of an evolving pandemic and have responded to the call to care for COVID-19 patients.

Each of our Divisions has contributed in unique ways, from primary clinical care to research innovations and educational initiatives critical to the COVID-19 response. The medical and scientific communities are working to advance the understanding of the virus that causes COVID-19, improving testing for more accurate diagnosis, developing more effective treatments, and ensuring vaccine efficacy and safety for all.

We thank each and every one of you who make up our amazing community for your stellar leadership, courage and compassion, as well as your remarkable ingenuity and professionalism during this most difficult time. With profound gratitude for these efforts, we would like to celebrate the incredible contributions of Department of Medicine members to our COVID-19 response, in particular the members of the divisions of General Internal Medicine, Respiratory Medicine, Infectious Diseases, Rheumatology, and Critical Care Medicine for their tireless efforts on the front line of the pandemic.

With hope and optimism for better days ahead.

Our deepest gratitude,
