Dr. Adeera Levin Announced as an Order of Canada Recipient

We would like to announce that Dr. Adeera Levin has been selected as a 2015 recipient of the Order of Canada.

Levin, AdeeraDr. Levin is Professor and Head, Division of Nephrology, and a consultant nephrologist at Providence Health Care.  She also serves as the executive director of the BC Renal Agency which oversees the care and planning for kidney services in BC.  She is an outstanding clinician scientist in kidney disease who leads a strong group with international impact in nephrology. She has made significant contributions to the understanding of the determinants of kidney health and disease and has ensured this knowledge is shared with patients living with chronic kidney disease (CKD) and their health-care providers to improve clinical care and quality of life.   In 2014 she received the Kidney Foundation Medal for Research Excellence, and in 2015 she received the Aubrey J. Tingle Prize, an award given to a British Columbia researcher whose work in health research is internationally recognized and has significant impact on advancing clinical or health services and policy research.

The Order of Canada, one of our country’s highest civilian honours, was established in 1967, during Canada’s centennial year, to recognize outstanding achievement, dedication to the community and service to the nation.  Dr. Levin is the third division head and first female professor in the Department of Medicine to receive this honour, in recognition of her leadership in the treatment of kidney disease.
