Dr. Christopher Carlsten appointed Division Head, Respiratory Medicine

It is with great pleasure that we announce Dr. Chris Carlsten as Head, UBC Division of Respiratory Medicine, effective March 1, 2018.

Dr. Chris Carlsten started at UBC in 2007 and has been a Full Professor in the Division of Respiratory Medicine since 2017.  He is a recognized national and international leader in the field of air pollution and health effects related to inhaled exposures.  He served on a number of University committees such as the Faculty of Medicine Research Pillar Advisory Group for the Strategic Plan, Building the Future, Personalized Health Group, UBC Clinical Research Ethics Board, UBC Biomedical Branch Library Advisory Committee, UBC School of Population and Public Health Associate Member Committee.  He also serves on the Department of Medicine Academic Appointment, Reappointment, Promotion and Tenure Committee.  At the Provincial level, he has been a member of the BC Occupational and Environmental Health Research network and a member of the BC Lung Association.  Internationally, Dr. Carlsten has had numerous leadership roles with the American Thoracic Society including the Chair of the Program Committee for the Environment and Population Health Assembly and a member of its Executive Committee.  He holds several CIHR grants, MSFHR Career Investigator Award, Canada Research Tier 2 Chair in Occupational and Environmental Lung Disease, and Peter Wall Early Career Scholar and the Martin M. Hoffman Award for research excellence in the UBC Department of Medicine.  Dr. Carlsten has been actively involved in teaching at all levels and has supervised undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate students and clinical fellows, and has been recognized for his excellence as a mentor and as a researcher.
