The Department of Medicine is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Nadia Khan as Head, Division of General Internal Medicine effective October 1, 2020.
Dr. Khan has been the Interim Head of the Division of General Internal Medicine since September 2019 and was recently selected as the successful candidate for the Division Head position for a five-year term.
Dr. Khan is a Professor of Medicine and an Associate Member of the UBC School of Population and Public Health. She is a Clinician Scientist in the field of clinical epidemiology and health services research at CHÉOS and UBC, and a specialist in internal medicine with a focus on hypertension and chronic disease management. She has published over 100 peer-reviewed papers and holds the Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research Career Scientist award. Her research interests include sex/gender/ethnic impact of cardiovascular disease, health services as well as hypertension, diabetes, and stroke. She has methodological expertise in big data, randomized clinical trials, and patient-oriented research. She is co-director of the Hypertension Clinic at St. Paul’s Hospital and is an American Society of Hypertension Clinical Specialist in Hypertension. A member of the Canadian Hypertension Education program since 2003, she was elected President of Hypertension Canada in January 2017 and is also a council member of the International Society of Hypertension. In 2016 she received the Robert E. Beamish Award, which recognizes an original study published in the Canadian Journal of Cardiology in the past three years that has the biggest potential impact on cardiovascular health and care.
Dr. Khan is a longstanding and very active member of the GIM Division. She has served on a number of divisional committees, was instrumental in developing the division’s alternative funding plan, and has been very active in teaching, recruitment, and mentoring. She is a highly valued member of the Division and is tireless in her pursuit of excellence.
