Dr. Thomas Kerr appointed Division Head, Social Medicine

The Department of Medicine is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Thomas Kerr as Head, Division of Social Medicine effective May 1, 2021.

Dr. Kerr was previously the Interim Head of the Division of Social Medicine since April 2019 and was recently selected as the successful candidate for the Division Head position for a five-year term.

Dr. Kerr is a Professor of Medicine and an Associate Member of the UBC School of Population and Public Health. He is a Senior Research Scientist and Senior Scientific Advisor with the BC Centre on Substance Use (BCCSU) and also serves on the UBC President’s Senior Appointments Committee. He has been engaged in a range of undergraduate and graduate teaching activities and was the co-creator of an undergraduate medical elective course in Urban Health Research. He has also developed an online class on Stimulant Use Disorder for the online Addiction Medicine Certificate Program for BCCSU. He has published over 500 peer-reviewed papers and has received over $17,000,000 in peer-reviewed grant funding from CIHR and the US National Institutes of Health. Dr. Kerr is a longstanding member of the Division of Social Medicine and very active in teaching, research, and mentoring.
