It is with great pleasure that we announce the appointment of Dr. Tristen Gilchrist as the Associate Program Director, Curriculum, of the Department of Medicine’s Postgraduate Education Program effective December 1, 2020.
Dr. Gilchrist is a Clinical Instructor in the Division of General Internal Medicine and has been instrumental in leading the program through its implementation of Competency Based Medical Education in his role as CBME lead in the last year. Dr. Gilchrist brings extensive medical education experience through his role as CBME lead, and his Masters of Science in Health Professions Education through the Centre for Health Education Scholarship. His knowledge of the training program as a resident, chief medical resident, fellow, and preceptor provides the multiple perspectives valuable to assist with the challenges of design and delivery of the core program curriculum.
At this time we would also like to express our heartfelt thanks to Dr. Wendy Cook as she leaves this role to accept the role of Program Director of the Geriatrics Fellowship program. Dr. Cook has held the role of Associate Program Director, Curriculum since 2012 and has made tremendous contributions to the academic aspects of the program throughout her tenure in the position. Her work on new initiatives such as PGY1 Boot Camp, Academic Half Day redesign, and curriculum mapping for Competency By Design has enabled the residency program to excel and adapt to the changing educational landscape. Her efforts were a major factor in our very successful Royal College Accreditations visit last spring.
Please join us in welcoming Dr. Gilchrist to his new role and wishing him continued success in the Department of Medicine!
