Vision Statement
Research Interests
Includes introducing a fast and easy way of recording electroencephalogram in the emergency room and intensive care unit which is unique in Canada and helps early diagnosis of hidden seizures to help prevent brain damage. This device could eventually be used in remote medical centers to identify subtle ongoing seizures.
Research Summary
Dr. Farzad Moien has investigated novel treatments in the setting of prolonged seizures, which helped preserve memory-forming structures of the brain in animal models. For the first time in Canada, he and his colleagues at UofS established an adult epilepsy brain bank to advance epilepsy research, aiming to investigate novel targets for new antiepileptic drugs.
