Marking 25 Years of Transcatheter Valve Therapy: Honoring Dr. John G. Webb

Earlier this month, the UBC Department of Medicine celebrated an incredible milestone in cardiac care: 25 years of transcatheter valve therapy in Vancouver, led by the remarkable Dr. John G. Webb.

Dr. Webb is the Director of Interventional Cardiology at St. Paul’s Hospital, the McLeod Professor at UBC, and the Medical Director of the Transcatheter Valve Program for the Province of BC. As the director of the Centre for Heart Valve Innovation, Dr. Webb has spearheaded groundbreaking advancements in transcatheter valve therapy.

His team developed some of the most widely used transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) procedures and pioneered numerous first-in-human devices and techniques. With over 3,000 aortic, mitral, pulmonary, and tricuspid valve procedures performed or supervised across 30 countries, and more than 600 publications authored, Dr. Webb’s contributions to cardiac care have been transformative on a global scale.

The event honoring this milestone also served as an Accredited Group Learning Activity (Section 1) as defined by the Maintenance of Certification program of The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.

Congratulations to Dr. Webb for his extraordinary leadership, innovation, and dedication to improving heart valve care for patients locally and worldwide!
