Roger Wong Becomes President of Canadian Geriatrics Society

rogerwongRoger Wong, Clinical Professor in the Division of Geriatric Medicine of the Department of Medicine, has ascended to the presidency of the Canadian Geriatrics Society (CGS) — the first British Columbian to lead the organization in 20 years.

The CGS is the largest national society for physicians with an interest in geriatrics. Dr. Wong, who is the Division’s Associate Postgraduate Program Director and Consultant Physician and Head of the Geriatric Consultation Program at Vancouver General Hosptial, was previously the CGS’s President-elect.

Dr. Wong joined UBC as a Clinical Instructor in 1997, becoming a Clincial Professor last year, and has a strong interest in medical education. He has served as Chair of the Exit Outcomes and Competencies Working Group, the Implementation Task Force on Curriculum Renewal, and Chair of the MD Undergraduate Admissions Interview Question Committee. He also was Assistant Dean for Faculty Development.

Dr. Wong has won UBC’s Killam Teaching Prize and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada Donald Richards Wilson Award. He is a member of the Royal College of Geriatric Medicine and Internal Medicine Examination Boards, and was elected a fellow of the American College of Physicians in 2005.
