UBC Department of Medicine Researchers Awarded CIHR Grants to Drive Innovative Health Research

The Department of Medicine is proud to recognize several faculty members who have been awarded funding through the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) Project Grant: Fall 2024 competition. These grants will support innovative research in cardiovascular care, transplant medicine, critical care, and rheumatology.

Advancing Medical Research

  • Dr. Christina Luong & Dr. Teresa Tsang – AI-powered echocardiography for improved heart failure diagnosis (HEART-AI).
  • Dr. Scott Tebbutt – Metabolomic biomarkers for early detection of acute cellular rejection in heart transplant recipients.
  • Dr. James A. Russell – Lipid nanoparticle RNA systems as novel therapeutics for endotoxemia from severe bacterial infections.
  • Dr. Stephen Lam – Advancing respiratory medicine research.
  • Dr. Juan Avina-Zubieta & Dr. Diane Lacaille – Mapping treatment patterns and access to health services for eczema patients (IMHA priority area).
