UBC Department of Medicine Announcement: Incoming Out of Province Electives Cancelled

Incoming Out of Province Electives Cancelled

After extensive consultation within the leadership of the UBC Department of Medicine and across Canada, the Department of Medicine has decided to prohibit all Out of Province rotations (incoming and outgoing) from blocks 1-3*.  Any elective rotations within the UBC Department of Medicine and its subspecialties for Out of Province residents scheduled from Blocks 1-3 have been cancelled, and no new incoming applications will be considered.  This decision is Department-wide and applies to all programs within the DOM.  The Department has determined that the public health concerns remain paramount for the foreseeable future, which has informed its decision to suspend all electives until the fall. A decision on the status of electives after block 3 will likewise take this into consideration and be made in the coming months.

* Exceptions MAY be considered from residents whose home institutions do not offer electives in a given subspecialty, or where virtual clinics can be arranged, eliminating the need for travel.  Please inquire with the appropriate program for details.
