ADVISORY: The UBC Faculty of Medicine transitioning to Microsoft Teams and OneDrive end of day March 26, 2021

The Faculty of Medicine will be officially transitioning from Skype for Business to Microsoft (MS) Teams and OneDrive end of day on March 26, 2021.

While many members of the Faculty of Medicine have already transitioned to this collaboration and communications tool since it launched last fall, please note the upcoming changes for any active UBC employees who are still using Skype for Business and what that would mean for your team.

Key changes if you’re currently using Skype for Business:

  • Skype for Business will no longer be operational end of day on March 26, 2021.
  • Members using non-UBC computers will need to download Teams.
  • Members looking to chat and meet virtually will have to do so on MS Teams or Zoom.
  • Meetings that have been booked on Skype for Business will have to be rescheduled on MS Teams.
  • Any meetings with telephone participants will have to be moved to Zoom.

MS Teams and OneDrive features video conferencing, group chat, and collaboration in real-time using Microsoft Office applications like Word, PowerPoint and Excel. It also enables teams to be more productive by giving them a single and secure location that brings together everything a team needs all in one hub, including chats, meetings, calls, files, and tools.
