Message from the DOM Equity Committee (September 10, 2024)
In the context of the Israel-Palestine conflict, we want to remind everyone that UBC opposes all forms of violence and hate speech against any group, and we favour constructive dialogue. In line with our commitment to a respectful and inclusive environment, Anti-Semitism and Islamophobia will not be tolerated. If you are feeling distressed or unsafe, the following resources are available for support:
Equity & Inclusion in the UBC Department of Medicine
The UBC Department of Medicine strives to cultivate a teaching, learning and working environment that is equitable, accepting, inclusive and free of discrimination and harassment. In conjunction with the University of British Columbia and the Faculty of Medicine, the UBC Department of Medicine works to bridge gaps in equity within the Department by identifying principal concerns, developing equity guidelines, and educating division heads and directors. We work to ensure equitable hiring practices by raising awareness, broadening candidate pools and standardizing candidate selection methods. We promote and support professional development and networking opportunities for all of our faculty and trainees. We integrate equity principles into our training programs and academic activities by engaging our educational program directors in equity initiatives.
